Live from Southampton, United Kingdom

Dear family and friends,

My time in the UK has been nothing sholondonrt of an adventure. As I’ve said in the past- this is a new year. I’m in a new country, with a new job, living in a new house, attending a new church, learning about new systems in a new culture. Most importantly I’m experiencing new mercies every morning. Everyday I receive God’s outpouring of love in both big and small ways. He has certainly stayed true to His promise to be faithful and provide.

Over the past few weeks I’ve been able to meet a lot of people. Time and time again I’ve been met with the questions “what brought you to Southampton, why did you choose to come to the UK?” I pause for a few moments and the only answer I can seem to conjure up is… “God”.

I’ll be honest, at the end of the day there are an amalgamation of reasons why I am here: job prospects for teacher’s in Ontario are not so great, I’m an adventurous person and I’ve always wanted to experience what it would be like to live abroad, I’ve got nothing else to do for the next few months, the UK just seems so glamorous… etc. None of these things can truly justify why I am here, they offer no comfort or peace in knowing this is where I am supposed to be. The only reason I am here is because God has invited me to experience His glory and power in an entirely new way. Jesus is present in Southampton, He is hard at work amongst his people, amongst the local community and within the school that I work at. He has kindly asked me to come alongside Him and join Him in the work that He is doing. For that I am exceedingly grateful.

I will not lie to you, it’s been a hard, and there have been many adjustments that I’ve needed to make, but God has proven Himself to me over and over again (I am so thankful to be in an English speaking country!). I have been welcomed by so many of God’s people with an abundance of love and kindness at Southampton Lighthouse International Church. I also have the privilege of living with 2 other Christian girls quite close to the school (which is within walking distance from my house).

As I think about my experiences, it is clear that God’s hands have orchestrated all the events that have taken place so far. Though the road ahead will be tough I’m genuinely thrilled as I look forward to the things that God has in store. I am so thankful to those of you who have been praying for me and inquiring about me… I feel your love and prayers everyday and I am can’t wait to see you here in the UK!

Please don’t forget about me and continue to keep me in prayers (if you remember:))!

Love Always,

See, I am doing a new thing!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
    and streams in the wasteland.
